Printed on demand
Print on Demand (POD) is the print industry’s version of ‘Just in Time’. A common misconception is that POD refers only to digital printing but at CanPrint this is not the case. POD is an efficient solution that enables us to manufacture short runs of publications (down to one copy) allowing our customers to:
- meet tight turnarounds,
- reduce their inventory, and
- improve cash flow.
POD requires the print supplier to have a wide range of resources available in order to design a solution that really meets client needs. CanPrint has been using its resources for more than 10 years to provide POD solutions to customers including:
- The Treasury,
- Attorney-General’s Department,
- Airservices Australia,
- Austroads, and
- RIRDC.
The key to POD is not the use of digital vs offset printing, but is instead the streamlining and automating of the interface between CanPrint and its customers. This is why CanPrint’s in-house ICT department developed our Integrated Print and Logistics Management software (IPALM). IPALM is used by clients to host content, receive print orders, conduct ecommerce, fulfil deliveries, manage inventories, and provide standard and custom reports that fully integrate via EDI into the customers’ management systems. Customers can determine the look and feel of the IPALM interface, as well as choose the required functionality.
